Tudor boy
Tudor Boy

I needed something to wear to the SCA's June Crown. It was going to be 100 degrees in Sacramento that weekend, and not only was my nice wool dress feeling a bit snug, but, whoa, that'd be way too hot. What to do?

Wear my husband's old doublet and be a man, baby, that's what!

I untied the sleeves from one of his renfaire doublets, so I could wear it with my lovely white shirt that Sarah had made to go with that wool dress.

Then I went to the thrift-store and found some black cotton pants. I cut them off at the knee and hemmed them with satin blanket binding (for flair). I unpicked the side seams about an inch and added black frog closures, and over this I put black satin ribbon rosettes accented with fringe and and pewter thistle-painted buttons (to be fancy). Insta-cannions.

At June Crown, I wore the outfit with stockings, garters, and flat black boots (another thrift-store find). But I only wore the whole get-up for an hour or so because the heat was insane. I soon stripped down to shirt and pants, like many of the gents.

Since I didn't get to really enjoy the ensemble, I decided to wear it again at Costume College '08. This was great fun, especially because I was one of the very few "men" at the event.

I'm *so* cross-dressing more often!
