Marilyn Monroe
from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

dress diary ~ costume photos

Notes - Front:
Pink silk (?) strapless gown, skirt and bow lined in black. Pointy 1950s bustline, no darts in bodice (?), appears draped over bust with fabric folded/wrapped in back. Plain neckline. Very subtle self-fabric belt and buckle. Straight column skirt.

Notes - Back:
Bow is architectural, not floppy. Upper end is full, round, and sweeping, but bottom end looks flattened. No tails on bow -- just the bottom loop of the bow that hangs flat down (wrap/slit in back also mimics tails from some angles). Bow is knotted at the right hip/buttock and hangs at an angle slightly up and down. Top of bow is tacked to top edge of bodice at back right. Black lining is folded over an inch on the top edge.

Back of skirt is wrapped and overlaps, petal-like, to create very high walking slit. Wrapped edges meet right under bow's knot. Whole skirt is lined in black.

Notes - Accessories:
Looks like two necklaces, but is probably one. Upper necklace is a snug choker, four rows of gems wide, large round medallion fixed at center. Lower necklace drapes down to collarbones, one row of gems, has dangling coin-shaped gems all around.

Earrings are six gems long in a three-gem wide strip. Four wide bracelets, one has round medallion like upper necklace.

Shoes are mules, possibly with back heel covered. Narrow (but not strappy) cuff across toes. Heel could be three or more inches, high but a little thick -- not stiletto. Shoes are black with sparkle, maybe small sequins or glitter. Nude hose or none. Hint of pink toenail polish.
