Wedding Books
These books are not about gothic weddings, per se, but the topics are applicable to anyone. All of them are available from Amazon.com at a discount.

  • The Knot's Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World by Carley Roney
The only hip wedding guide in existence, and it actually mentions the possibility of gothic weddings! Not that it features them, but it does allude to their existence. Unlike most general-purpose wedding books, this book doesn't rehash tired cliches and convoluted, out-dated etiquette rules. The Knot's book has the same hip, fun, mostly egalitarian attitude that the website does. But the book's easier to navigate and has a ton more detail than the site (plus, no slow downloads ;-). This book makes very few assumptions about your wedding -- it *doesn't* dictate prescribed wedding roles and formats. Instead, it offers examples and options for a variety of wedding scenarios (with lots of personalization) and gives advice that is flexible and modern (without hurting anyone's feelings). Highly recommended.

  • Weddings for Grownups: Everything You Need to Know to Plan Your Wedding Your Way by Carroll Stoner
Finally, wedding advice for real people! This isn't a "here's how to plan your wedding" book. Instead, this is a philosophical guide to doing things your own way, with plenty of suggestions on how to soothe an old-fashioned family's ruffled feathers. A lot of great advice is packed into this slim book, including wonderful, practical tips on how to prioritize. Highly recommended!

  • Bridal Bargains: Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget by Denise Fields & Alan Fields
A very practical, useful book on all aspects of cost-conscious weddings. These writers are the Ralph Nader/Consumer's Reports for the wedding industry! Highly recommended.

  • Alternative Weddings: An Essential Guide for Creating Your Own Ceremonies by Jane Ross-MacDonald
Handy tips and suggestions for writing a non-traditional ceremony, including religious and non-religious ideas, plus words from different cultures. Also features commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples. Recommended.

  • Weddings for Dummies by Marcy Blum, Laura Fisher Kaiser, Laura Fisher Kaiser, Laura Fisher
You don't have to be a real dummy to like this book! This is one of the most comprehensive wedding books around. Every wedding detail -- from rings to flowers to honeymoons -- and how to deal with it is covered in exhaustive detail in this book. Plus, the book includes a good many money-saving tips. Recommended.

  • Here Comes the Guide Northern California: Exceptional Locations and Services for Weddings, Special Events by Lynn Broadwell & Jan Brenner
This is a *fabulous* book! I've used it for many years to find locations for parties and company or costumed events. It's chock full of details about a huge variety of wonderful places for rent -- you'll find everything from prices to noise restrictions here. The same authors have done versions of this book for other parts of the US too! Highly recommended.

  • Wild Geese and Tea: An Asian-American Wedding Planner by Shu Shu Costa
For brides or grooms of Asian-American heritage, this book is a wonderful resource for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese wedding traditions. This book explains the meanings behind ancient and modern Asian customs and gives lots of lovely ideas for how to incorporate them into a more Westernized wedding. Highly recommended.

  • How to Have a Big Wedding on a Small Budget: Cut Your Wedding Costs by Half-- Or More by Diane Warner
A good basic guide to wedding costs and how to trim them, yet not skimp on what's important to you.

  • Victoria Romantic Weddings by Mary Forsell
From Victoria Magazine, oft beloved by AntiquityGoths for the dramatic, romantic pictures inspired by ages gone by.
