Dracula's not a Toreador, he's Tzimisce!
Follow this link and read the whole thing very carefully. You don't need to agree with me, just realize that I have a specific reason for my point of view and I'm not going to argue about it with you or anyone else. Don't bother emailing me about it. If you feel that strongly, make your own webpage dedicated to the topic (but don't send me the URL because I really don't care).

I'm a 500 year old Toreador from France...
No you're not. You are either very deluded or you take this game WAY too seriously. Please repeat after me: "It's just a game!"

Can I be a Toreador too?
Uh, perhaps you should talk to the Storyteller running the game you are in and ask him/her what type of character you can play. This is about a game, remember?

Please note: I do not think I'm a vampire, and I NEVER email or chat or IRC or what-have-you "in character." I simply created a web site devoted to a certain aesthetic and the vampires who embody it. I don't claim to be the High Queen of Toreadors to decree who is worthy to join the clan. Besides, the Toreador don't have a Council of Seven like the Tremere who must approve of all doings within the clan!

How to I start playing Vampire?
First, purchase the Vampire: the Masquerade book. Read this book from start to finish -- even if you never play, it's a very entertaining book! Once you are familiar with the basic structure of the game, then you'll need to find some people to play it with you. Call up a few friends (you only need four or five), let them read the book, and start playing. If you're looking for an established game and experienced players, read the next two questions for suggestions on how to go about it.

Do you know of any online Vampire games?
Sorry, I don't. It's not something I'm interested in, so I've never bothered to look for any. I have heard of some Vampire MUSHes and MUDs, but I know nothing about how to get into one. Try a web search or ask on the gaming Usenet groups (such as rec.games.frp.storyteller).

Do you know of any offline Vampire games?
No. If you are looking for a live-action game, try a web search, since many of the larger games have web sites devoted to them. If you're looking for a table-top game, try asking on the gaming Usenet groups (such as rec.games.frp.storyteller) or look around your local gaming stores or college campuses.

Why a Toreador web site?
Why the heck did I spend so much time and bandwidth ranting about these silly art fags? Simple: I used to play one! And I hadn't seen a decent clan page on the web when I started this in January 1996. There were a few mini-pages attached to general Vampire sites, but they mostly restated White Wolf's clanbook.

I was also very inspired by original thE mAlKavian wEb paGe (which sadly seems to no longer exist). This site was so amazingly, perfectly Malkavian! The content was silly, crazy, and ultimately enjoyable -- and the pages were packed with content. This really was what a web site should be! And, since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I tried to emulate that precedent. I created a Toreador web site that embodied all that is intrinsically Toreador, both in the game and in real life. Hence my concentration on the arts and my rather pretentious, self-important writing style (well, that's just the way I usually write...). I tried to both live up the stereotypes and expand them at the same time.

One thing I wanted to do with this web site was create some real content. So much of the web is just a list of links to other places on the web, but, with this site, I concentrated on the written word.

Who's in charge here?
The webmistress is Trystan L. Bass. I am no longer adding anything to this site -- it exists as a static resource for your gaming pleasure.

Who writes all the stuff on this web site?
If there's not a name at the top or bottom of the page, it was written by yours truly (except for the list pages, which were compiled by me with suggestions from many different people). I also designed and edited the entire site. And, while I ardently believe that information and art should be free, I am equally committed to giving credit where credit is due. When people sent me essays and characters to add to le Salon, I always included their name. I adamantly discourage people from reproducing any work in this web page without express permission from the author. And yes, all of it is copyrighted.

Where can I get nifty Toreador graphics?
Aw heck, just steal off my page like everyone else does. Most of what I have here is a typical web mishmash -- some things I scanned from White Wolf books and from my copious Dover clip art library, some I found in online clip art collections, little bits I created myself, and most of it was re-designed, tweaked, and stylized by me several times over. I expect that my graphics will be copied by others, and for the most part, I really don't mind the copying ... except for my front page logo (you know, the one that says "Le Salon de la Rose"). Please do not copy that unless you are making it into a link to my page. Thanks!

What's with "toreadors.com"?
"www.toreadors.com" is the domain name I purchased for my Toreador web site. Unfortunately, "www.toreador.com" was already taken at the time. BTW, my domain name is not for sale, nor can I give you an email address at toreadors.com.

Will you add my stuff to your page?
No. I honestly do not have the time to add to this site anymore. It exists here as a static resource.

I really hate your page.
Toreadors are a bunch of silly art fags!

Yeah, so what's your point? If you must flame me, be prepared for a typically Toreador witty put-down. Or, more likely, for complete silence, if your flame was pathetic, clichéd, or misspelled. Besides, if you don't like this site, why the hell are you wasting your time here? Go cruise alt.sex.bestiality for kicks or spam alt.fan.rush.limbaugh.

I really like your page! Where do I send comments?
PLEASE read through this entire page first. You would be amazed at how many people email me to say "Dracula's not a Toreador, he's Tzimisce!" or ask "do you know of any online games?" even though I've addressed those exact topics right here. I don't have the time to repeat myself so much! My email link is available on this page, just read very carefully.

Can I add a link from my page to yours?
Sure! Link away! You do not need to email me for permission to link to my site.

Will you add a link from your page to mine?
No. I am no longer adding to this site.

I linked to your page, will you link to mine in return?
No. I am no longer adding to this site.

Who are you anyway?
I'm Trystan, I'm female (not male, as some infer from the name), far older than 16, and married. You can find about me on my personal webpages.

Please note: I do not think I'm a vampire, and I NEVER post online or respond to email "in character." I simply admire a really neat role-playing game, and my favorite types of characters in this game are Toreadors.

I only consider myself a Toreador in the symbolic and thematic sense -- in the same way that I think of myself as an intellectual, a writer, Victorian, a costumer, a scholar, etc., etc. So don't get your knickers in a twist taking this stuff so damn seriously! And if you do email me saying you are a 500-year-old vampire or begging me to Embrace you, be prepared for total silence -- after more than five years of that stuff, I don't find it very amusing.

Do you play Vampire games?
Not anymore. I have played table-top Vampire off and on since 1992, and I played live-action Vampire constantly for three years. However, running a year-long game with my husband seriously burnt me out on Vampire for a while. I still love the game, I just don't want to play it anymore.

Will you look at my web page?
Sorry, no. I honestly don't have the time anymore to peruse every random vampire site that comes my way.

What do you think of my web page?
Sorry, I honestly don't have the time to critique every site that comes my way

If you have read through all of this page and your questions still aren't answered, or you have comments or criticism about this site, you are welcome to email me.

I generally do not have time to respond to vampire-related email. But I do appreciate all the comments that I receive, thank you!
