It all started with a role-playing game by a wonderful company named White Wolf. They created seven different clans of vampires for players to act as in their games. These original clans each correspond to different vampire stereotypes from punk "Lost Boys" vampires to hideous Nosferatu. But the jewel of these clans was the tortured artist vampires, the sensitive lovers of beauty and sophistication, the hedonistic degenerates. Yes, my friends, this is the Toreador.
But this web site is not merely about a bunch of fantasy game characters. The Toreadors are much more than that. They speak to the truest appeal of the vampire legend -- they are beautiful, sensual, elegant angels who seduce us with razor-edged smiles. They are Thantos and Eros combined into a sumptuous package. Dracula was a Toreador, as are Louis and Lestat and just about every protagonist drawn in the Byronic vein. Toreadors are beauty and love and sex and death incarnate.
Le Salon de la Rose is a celebration of artistic indulgence in the tradition of the Aesthetic Movement, the Symbolists, the Romantics, the Pre-Raphaelites, and especially the present-day Gothic subculture. And all of this is expressed through the filter of a role-playing game called Vampire: the Masquerade.
So join us, fellow vampires, gamers, Goths, and art lovers, for a completely biased, rather arrogant, and amazingly silly digression on the subject of the most fascinating vampires in White Wolf's World of Darkness, the Clan Toreador!
