Also, most any modern tote bag pattern (and some laptop bag patterns) can be the basis for a medieval pilgrim&#8217;s scrip or traveler&#8217;s satchel.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.butterick.com\/item\/B5371.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Butterick 5371<\/a> &#8212; Perfectly period pouches, just remove the shoulder strap on views H and I.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.voguepatterns.com\/item\/V8375.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vogue 8375<\/a> &#8212; Ignore the crazy-quilting designs, the pattern shapes are great for SCA period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Books<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?link_code=ur2&amp;tag=trystancraft-20&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F1851772863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Bags<\/em> by Claire Wilcox<\/a>, V&amp;A Publications, 1999. First two chapters are very useful and relevant to SCA period, featuring photos and quotes from historical sources. Provides excellent context.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/9089320040?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=trystancraft-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=9089320040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Purses in Pieces: Archaeological Finds of Late Medieval and 16th-Century Leather Purses, Pouches, Bags, and Cases in the Netherlands<\/em> by Olaf Goubitz<\/a>, Stichting Promotie Archeologie, 2007. Very focused on leather items and on the Netherlands, but the shapes and styles are incredibly useful for SCA period.
