Despite a record-breaking 102 degree heat yesterday, I finished the dress. All trimmed up with super-cutesy ruffles, also hemmed. Used the ruffler foot (always tricky, but when it works, it’s freakin’ awesome) to make the trim. Oh, and the strip of white cotton I used for this trim? It was excess cut off from the petticoat when I hemmed that. Being short has some advantages.<\/p>\n

Could add ties or hooks for polonaising, but could also just use safety pins. Got this idea while laying in bed trying to sleep (I get a lot of costume ideas then) to add poufy rosettes where the skirt is pinned up, a la this gown at the V&A. Would use white cotton for the rosettes and accent with some of the silver music note and instrument charms I bought a while back. Could also add some of these charms on the bodice, with or without similar rosettes. Will leave that to the last-minute, as I have more pressing matters to work on — namely, Thomas’ costume!<\/p>\n

Sewed up his waistcoat yesterday, and it fits nicely. Still need to make a jillion buttonholes, then sew on the buttons (did I buy buttons already? where’d they go?). Today, if I can stand the heat, I’ll cut out the pieces for his breeches. Mad props to Donna<\/a> for copying the Simplicity Jack Sparrow pattern in a larger size for me! I’d bought it smaller for myself, then decided to use it for his outfit. He is, of course, a bit bigger than I.
