For Costume College 2013, I was invited by Loren<\/a> to join a group creating Disney villains — but 18th-century versions! This was inspired by a group of costumers who had done 18th-century versions of Disney princesses at the previous year’s Gala & were planning to wear their outfits at the Ice Cream Social.<\/p>\n

Since I joined late (& also since I was doing this around the time of my surgery), I wanted to make a costume that used garments I already had. That’s how I came up with the Queen of Hearts. I reused my stripey redingote & quickly sewed a new petticoat from yellow & black striped cotton bought off eBay. In my Stash, I had a gold crown that I’d bought with the vague intention of sticking in an 18th-century wig (done!). I glued together some red fabric around cardboard over a dowel I painted to create a heart wand, tho’ when I didn’t like the look of it, I glued on a bunch of red flowers on one side & white flowers on the other (all from The Stash), so I could “paint” white roses into red. I wore a white fichu that I had to evoke the white collar the Disney queen’s gown has. And then I shouted “Off with their heads!” a lot \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
