I joined the Barbie train a little late but also because the GBACG announced a Barbie themed event for 2024. And then I decided to get double use out of the costume by finishing it for Costume College for the movie\/TV themed Friday night party. Took a while to decide which Barbie to make but I settled on the iconic Day-to-Night Barbie and making it switch from day to night.<\/p>\n

\"Day-to-Night<\/p>\n

The pink suit with hat can be bought online, so I got that and then split the skirt up the back, added the pink glitter tulle “night” skirt on the reverse inside, and made it velcro up the back. I wore it with a pink sequin tank top underneath for the “night” outfit.<\/p>\n

\"Barbie<\/p>\n

The accessories were fun to make! Finding a briefcase that looked like the toy one took a while — I used a plastic art supply carrying case and glued pink fabric on it with the Barbie logo and painted the stitching details. I found the evening purse and two pairs of shoes on eBay and Poshmark, adding details with fabric and paint as needed.<\/p>\n

One hilarious accessory is the calculator — it’s not a mobile phone, it’s a calculator! I studied images online and reproduced it in Photoshop then printed it out and mounted it on cardstock.<\/p>\n
