I could have been working on something recognizable and sensible for Costume College. But no, I finished up this strange apron thing that is not really steampunk, nor Victorian, nor really anything anyone else would ever wear. But hey, that’s what I do. I’m the costume mashup queen.<\/p>\n

I zig-zagged the patches on, for an extra punk look — messy is punk, oi!<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, zig-zag, being a wide stitch, kinda covered up some of the text that was really close to the edge of the patches, like on the Mina and the Harkers. C’est la vie…<\/p>\n

Why yes, that’s an elastic loop for my Sonic Screwdriver<\/a>! See, it’s not so much steampunk as geekpunk. I’m inventing my own new genre, thanks. The D-ring on the other side, I plan to hang my light saber from. Ok, maybe it’s dorkpunk.<\/p>\n

Later today, instead of starting that ruff for the 1580s gown, I had a hankering to make a steampunky brooch to go with this outfit. Though it ended up not really working with this outfit. See, I’d thought to wear it at the center point of the sweetheart neckline, but then, I want to wear this cool new tie, and a brooch would cover that up.<\/p>\n

So I thought, well, I’ll put a brooch on the mini top hat and wear that. ‘Cept I’m wearing the mini top hat on Friday. And then when I made the brooch, it ended up being a style that needs to dangle longways, which might work on a mini tricorn, but not on a mini top hat because the brim would get in the way. I can try it, but it’s not likely. So yeah, I make random things…<\/p>\n

The collage includes a photo of Berlin Wall graffiti saying “who is who?”, a photo of a Notre Dame gargoyle (mounted on foam for a slightly 3D effect), and the Duran Duran “New Moon on Monday” symbol, plus a pearl, a crystal bead, a black bead, and a watch turning bit.<\/p>\n

No idea when or what I’ll use it for. Stay tuned for future steampunky action on that front! Or heck, I’ll just wear on a lapel to work.<\/p>\n
