Arwen’s Gown, In Progress

Arwen's Midnight Requiem Gown

Arwen gown in-progress

Today, I got the main body of my black and silver elf gown done. Not sure if I’ll bother with the overgown because when I sewed the wide sari trim to the neckline, it just looked so good against the solid black. I think the silver overgown (a la the two-part Requiem outfit) might detract from the wonderfulness of that trim.

Instead, I may use the rest of the trim to make a belt rather like the one on Galadriel’s gown, only, duh, black and silver.

And I may not make the Aragorn overtunic either because the undertunic looks way too cool to cover up. Besides, I always thought Aragorn’s Council Velvets looked kinda dumb. Ditto the burgundy outfit he wears in Frodo’s bedroom at the end of Return of the King. Same style, same “this is the future King of Gondor’s bathrobe” look.

Not making those two over-thingies will save time too, so bonus for me! Sure, I’ll have a bunch of yardage of black and silver panne velvet, but surely I can figure out something to make from those. Preferably something for my everyday wardrobe as those are comfy and attractive fabrics, IMO.
