Black Velvet Gown at the Art Deco Preservation Ball

Posted on October 12, 2023 by Trystan L. Bass

Somewhat at the last minute, I decided to attend the annual Art Deco Preservation Ball, mostly because in 2023 it was held at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. I’d long wanted to go to something in this gorgeous local landmark, and since I seem to know a bunch of folks in the Art Deco Society, why not join them?

Also, I’d picked up this gorgeous black velvet evening gown that reproduced a rather 1930s style so this was the perfect event. This was my first time trying to style my own hair in ’30s-ish fingerwaves, and it doesn’t entirely suck! I wet-set in sponge curlers for a few hours (not overnight) and followed a bunch of YouTube tutorials to get the waves, plus I tried to tuck up the back into a faux bob (my hair being past shoulder length).

Once that was done, I added a purple feathered hair decoration and rhinestone jewelry.

Then off to the Paramount!
