Tiny bits of progress

Posted on September 13, 2006 by Trystan

Tickets for the GBACG’s Around the World in 80 Days are on sale! It will be on October 21, 2006, from 1pm to 5pm at the Duke of Edinburgh Pub, Cupertino. I need to get crackin’ on my costume! I’ll probably use the Simplicity 9761 pattern as a base, and I have all the notions

1930s Black & Grey Dress

Posted on September 11, 2006 by Trystan

Shortly after Gatsby 2005, I bought this dress off eBay. It was listed as 1920s, but I think the style is more ’30s. It’s a somewhat transitional shape — neither fully straight nor fully fitted in the bust or waist. The waist is dropped, and the handkerchief hem is just around the knees. The dress

Lumieres Bastille Day Picnic

Posted on August 26, 2006 by Trystan

July 15, 2006, at the Piedmont Cemetery Our inaugural Lumieres picnic was beautiful! I had a most delightful time, and I must thank the most gracious Comtesse de la Valliére for her warm hospitality. The Comtesse, my cousin Cecily, and myself ventured out early — around noon — to the far reaches of the Valliére

Gatsby Picnic 2005

Posted on September 13, 2005 by Trystan

I’d always been intimidated by the Art Deco Society’s Gatsby Picnic. It’s a costume-only event, and the society has a reputation for being historical sticklers. I’d heard they prefer authentic vintage garb and gear over mere reproduction clothing. As the 1920s had never been a particular favourite clothing era of mine, I figured I’d never

Another one of my crazy ideas

Posted on August 18, 2005 by Trystan
Around the World in 80 Days

Yesterday at the gym, I came up with what I think is an awesome idea for a GBACG event next year. I can’t get to the planning meeting this Sunday, but I wrote up the idea and sent it to the Event Coordinator and Prez. last night so they could put it on the agenda.

Ghostly Cathy from “Wuthering Heights”

Posted on November 2, 2002 by Trystan

For the 10th anniversary of our Famous Dead Person’s Ball, I decided to indulge myself with a costume I’d dreamed of doing for years — a somewhat historically accurate Cathy in Wuthering Heights from the early scene where she’s a ghost scratching through the bedroom window. It’s the scene that Kate Bush‘s wonderful song “Wuthering
