What Gets Me Thru the Long Sewing Days

Posted on April 30, 2013 by Trystan

I don’t have any sewing progress photos because I’m just going, going, going. Also, the black francaise took up permanent residence on my dressform for months, so I couldn’t photograph anything else effectively (I tried some iPhone mirror pix in the middle of fitting stuff on myself, & wow, those sucked). The to-do list for

Miss Hades

bats

This is something of a belated Halloween costume — it’s what I wore to the annual PEERS Bal des Vampyres. I wanted to wear something pretty, gothy, and yet somewhat comfortable (specifically, uncorseted!). The gown was made by the ever-wonderful Donna for me to wear at the Costume College Gala two years earlier. It’s a

18th-Century Riding Habit

Posted on March 19, 2011 by Trystan

In January 2011, I modified the Rocking Horse Farm riding habit bodice to fit, then sent that re-drafted pattern, along with a red-black crossweave wool, some black velveteen, black braid, and black vintage jet buttons to Donna. In our seemingly endless barter stream, this became my new riding habit for our Colonial Williamsburg trip in

Peacock Bustle Gown

Posted on May 19, 2009 by Trystan

Another fabulous collaboration with my dear Donna of Original Sin Design! I’d gotten this piece of hot pink sari fabric from a costumer’s garage sale and knew it would “pop” against black. But I didn’t know what style of what. Then fabric.com had a sale on black silk shantung, and Donna suggested we both wear

Phoenix Parade

Posted on August 10, 2007 by Trystan

The Phoenix Parade was a practically impromptu fashion show inspired by Kambriel and organized on LiveJournal by gothic designers, friends, and Portland, OR, locals. It was an alternative, grass-roots event that took place during, but not as part of, Convergence 13. You can read the whole history of the event, starting here on LJ. Because

Sew What, Part Deux

Posted on June 11, 2006 by Trystan

I guess the next thing I can start on is the underskirt. I have the underpinnings, and it doesn’t require the bodice to be finished. Maybe, just maybe, if I’m very focused this week, I could cut that out. I find it terribly difficult to sew on weeknights, just don’t have the energy and inclination

HockeyGoth Fashion

Posted on May 21, 2004 by Trystan

I love my hometown San Jose Sharks. So naturally, when I go to a game, I want to dress and show my support for Our Boys in Teal. Thus was born my HockeyGoth wardrobe. It began with a sweatshirt and a lunchbox, then grew as I added T-shirts and a jersey. Then the wonderful Original
