Whip it good

Posted on December 31, 2006 by Trystan

I’ve been hand-sewing since about 10am, with a couple breaks for breakfast, loads of coffee, and some chocolate. Not only do I still hate hand-sewing, but I’m beyond BORED of hand-sewing. It’s like watching paint dry. No, it’s like *making* paint dry. Omg, it is so BOOOOOOOORRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNG. I can’t believe how boring this much hand-sewing is.

Not sure if I’ve ever done this much in one stretch before. I’ve been whip-stitching the bag-lining to the armholes and bottom edge of the bodice, thus securing the epaulets and skirtings into place. Then I started putting in the hook and eye tape for the front closure. Got halfway thru the hook side, but needed a break when I realized my stitches were starting to wander. Probably because my mind was wandering. I was sooooooooo bored!

I’ve been listening to different kinds of music, singing along, which is usually good enough accompaniment for sewing. I’d kind of like to watch football, but there’s not enough light in the living room, and today’s rather overcast so opening the drapes wouldn’t help. It’s a pain, but maybe I’ll drag in my floor lamp from the sewing room. I’m so boooooooooorrrrrred!!!!

But I’m close. Left to do:
–Hook and eye tape on bodice.
–Set lining into sleeves.
–Sew ties on sleeves and armholes.
–Make skirt.

That’s all! The end is nigh.
