Mea Culpa & New Accessory Challenges for 2014

Posted on December 16, 2013 by Trystan
I'm Accessorizing Head to Toe!

Ok, so I failed on December’s challenges — blame cancer & trying to get my life back together after chemo. Blah blah blah, sick of excuses & sick of being sick! But that’s mostly behind me now, so onward & upward. We’ll take a month off from accessorizing & start the new year with all new challenges 🙂

January 2014:
Hair & Wigs – Style a wig, hairpiece, or your own hair into a historical style to suit your outfit.

February 2014:
Jewelry – Bling it up! Add some sparkle to your ensemble with necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, & more.

March 2014:
Gloves & Mitts – Elegant or practical hand coverings have been used across time.

You can always check the main Accessory Challenge page for updates & details on how to play along, who’s participating, & more.

I’m excited about these three challenges because they’re some of the most fun things to make! Hair & wigs can seem hard, but once you get started, you’ll find they’re very satisfying & rewarding. Jewelry is dead easy to make, it can be amazingly inexpensive compared to stuff you buy pre-assembled, & you can turn out things that look spectacularly historically accurate. And gloves or mitts, well, those can be as complicated or as easy as you want — feel free to start with vintage gloves & deck them out, it’s a fabulous way to get a period look too.

Here’s to a new year filled with cool new accessories for all!
