Blinging Up the Princess

Posted on December 13, 2014 by Trystan L. Bass
Princess of the Mists

For the Investiture of the Prince and Princess of the Mists, I helped sew the outfit worn by her highness Marguerite. I made the yellow damask sideless surcote that was worn over a blue velvet gown made by Sarah. I also made a blue velvet and yellow silk hood that was worn under the coronet. The entire outfit was inspired by the ladies depicted in the Unicorn Tapestries circa 1490s (and I started with the pattern I’d drafted for my own sideless surcote).

Marguerite provided the materials, including a ton of blue and gold gems to trim it — we used a mix of cabochons from Fire Mountain Gems and Tudor ouches from Truly Hats. I sewed a lot of those on during my daily train commute 🙂

The princess looked positively regal, but I can’t take credit for that, it’s all her.
