Wicked Stepmother at Carnevale

Wicked Stepmother at Carnevale

One party at Carnevale 2023 had the theme of “Once Upon a Time” and invited guests to come in any sort of fairy-tale costumes (but no Disney cosplay!). I looked through my closet and decided on something vaguely wicked stepmother-y using my black gothic fitted dress (which I wore twice that year at Carnevale, making packing easier) and a red silk sideless surcote I’d worn just once for an SCA event. Everything else was accessorizing!

I started with this black and red wig and trimmed the front a bit. At first, I styled all of it up in the back, but then I took it down.

On top, I added a leather headpiece by Faerywhere on Etsy and some cheap black foam horns for height.

I found a shiny red apple shaped purse on AliExpress and swapped in a black corded handle that visually disappeared, so I could offer a poisoned apple to sweet young things (and also hold my cellphone!).
